Want a Tomato Salad or Tomato Sandwich?

Tomatoes come in a variety of shapes, sizes, weights, tastes, and colors. Some varieties are perfect for salads, others for sandwiches, and others for sauces.

Cherry tomatoes are tiny marble sized or slightly bigger tomatoes. They are usually sweet and juicy. Cherries are perfect for snacking, Greek salad, drying, and so much more. Varieties: Sungold, Indigo Cherry, Red Pear.

Roma/Paste/Plum these tend to be drier and perfect are for making salsa, sauces, and canning. They are oval shape and tend to be red, but there is a yellow/orange variety available. Varieties: Picus, Amish Paste, and San Marzano.

Cocktail tomatoes are bigger than cherries, but smaller than slicers. Varieties: Green Zebra and Sub Arctic Maxi.

Heirloom tomatoes are varieties that are at least 50 if not more years old. They usually have a shorter shelf life and less disease resistance than hybrids. They come in an array of colors: black, green, yellow, white, red, pink, striped, orange, and purple. Varieties: Great White, Black Beauty, and German Johnson.

Red slicers are perfect for tomato sandwiches and salads. These tomatoes are round and red. They vary in size from baseball to weighting a pound or more. Varieties: Manitoba, Beefmaster, and Red Deuce.
