Taking Care of Mint

Mint is a very easy plant to take care of.  I often tell people if you don't have a green thumb and want to grow something, try growing mint.  Somethings to consider:

  1. Don't plant straight in the ground, unless you want a garden of mint.  Mint loves to spread.  If you want to put it in the garden, first put it a pot and than plant the pot.

  2. Mint can be grown both in part shade and full sun.

  3. They like it moist, but need a well-draining soil.

There are many different varieties of mint and each mint has a different zone that they will survive in. I live in Manitoba and mints that I have come back up year after year are peppermint, spearmint, wild mint, and chocolate mint. The majority of my mint plants I bring inside so that I know they will survive.


Mint can be used in various things: ice tea, hot tea, jellies, salads, crafting (used in soaps, potpourri, etc) and...........
