This is a pest that can affect indoor plants. I'm not sure that I have ever had fungus gnats, the reason being to me fungus gnats and fruit flies are similar. Here's a really good in-depth article explaining the differences between fruit flies and fungus gnats. When I am pursuing social media I often see posts about people battling fungus gnats.

What are fungus gnats? They are an insect that like damp soil. They are a problem that you will definitely want to remedy! They can destroy plant roots and a plant without a plant roots is not a healthy plant!

What can you do about fungus gnats? I heard a lot of people state that they get fungus gnats from Miracle Gro soil so I would avoid that soil. The soil I use is Sunshine Mix 4 and I have heard good things about Pro Mix soil. If you do notice insects flying around your plants use a yellow sticky trap. Also make sure you aren't overwatering your plants. It's a fine line between too wet and too dry. Another solution is to use mosquito dunks. This article explains the various uses for mosquito dunks, it's towards the middle of the article they discuss how to use it indoors.
