Busy Season

When my season starts in May I use to put in 7 days a week and anywhere from 10-12 hours a day. This year my body has decided that this is not feasible so I'm cutting down to 7-8 hours a day and still 7 days a week. I also need to make time keeping this blog up to date. Honestly in theory it shouldn't be that hard, but sometimes thinking and doing are two different things.
The garden is mostly in. I need to put in 7 more rows of sweet corn. I have started the seeds in the greenhouse and the plants are 2-3" high. Manitoba is currently under a heat wave so working in the afternoon and evening is not fun. This season I'm trying to listen and take care of myself so that means not working outside when it is too hot. I'm not a morning person, but will put in two 5 hour shifts on Friday and Saturday starting at 6 am. I also have a few rows that are kind of sparse so I'm filling in those rows.
The cutworms and flea beetles have been brutal this year and it's been a battle. I'm a natural grower so controlling the pests is a little harder. It's looking like it'll be a bumper crop for the : tomatoes, pumpkins, gourds, winter squash, cucumbers, sweet and ornamental corn, garlic peppers, beans, and potatoes. It'll be a dismal year for the: cabbage, kohlrabi, kale, lettuce, dill, carrots, beets, and radishes. I'm still trying to get the flowers going. Cutworms love sunflowers and ate most of my seedlings so I started 36 seeds in my greenhouse. Something happened to my two sowings of zinnia's so I've also started them in the greenhouse. I'm not a very patient person so waiting for fresh produce can be agonizing some days.
